Homestead Campground is one of two family campgrounds at Wyalusing State Park, Wisconsin's oldest state park, located 500 feet above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. The campground is conveniently situated near the park visitor center and sanitary dump station, making it an ideal base for exploring the park's 14 miles of hiking trails, ancient Native American burial mounds, and exceptional bird watching opportunities, particularly for eagle viewing. Combined with Wisconsin Ridge Campground, Homestead offers access to 109 regular campsites across the park.
Unlike Wisconsin Ridge Campground which perches atop bluffs with river views, Homestead Campground nestles into shady hardwood forest terrain, offering larger, more private wooded sites with excellent tree coverage. The campground features 55 sites broken into four loops that circle around a centrally located shower building built in 2019, which campers have praised as one of the best facilities at any campground. Of the 55 sites, only nine offer electric hookups and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while most sites feature gravel pads with picnic tables and fire rings. The campground includes pit toilets, shower facilities during the operating season, and a playground with a swing set and slide in the center of the campground.
Homestead Campground operates seasonally, with water systems including faucets, flush restrooms, showers, and the dump station turned off in late October and reopening in spring, though the park remains open year-round for day use. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance and are required before setting up at any site, with a limit of six people per site and one wheeled camping unit plus additional tents permitted. The pet-friendly campground provides easy access to the park's hiking and biking trails, the Spook Hill Indian mounds, and the Bluff Top concession stand operated by Friends of Wyalusing State Park, which serves visitors from late May through October. Seasonal campsite rates range from $15–$35 per night, with an additional park entrance fee required.
