Lookout Point is one of Wyalusing State Park’s signature vistas, a broad stone and rail overlook perched high above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers. From this bluff-top perch, you look out across a sweeping panorama of braided river channels, wooded islands, and the patchwork of Prairies du Chien’s rooftops and farm fields far below, with distant Iowa bluffs rising hazy on the horizon. The sense of height is unmistakable yet feels secure, with open sky above and the wide rivers shimmering and curving away to the south and west.
Reaching Lookout Point is straightforward and, for the most part, accessible to nearly everyone. A nearby parking lot on the bluff top lets visitors walk a short, mostly level distance along a blacktopped path to the railing, and those who prefer a longer approach can reach it via the Bluff Trail and connecting bluff-top paths that wind through shaded woods and occasional glimpses of the river. Though there may be a few small grades or uneven patches near the edge, most of the route from the parking area is friendly to families with strollers, older visitors, and anyone who wants a world-class view without a strenuous hike, making Lookout Point a must-see stop on any visit to Wyalusing State Park.
