Gold Seal Award–Best Place to Hold a Family Reunion

DSC_0003Every year, park visitors vote for their favorite Wisconsin State Park, Forest, Trail, or Recreational Area in ten different categories. The winners are honored at the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks annual meeting and awards banquet in October.

Wyalusing State Park was honored as the Gold Seal winner for the Best Place to Hold a Family Reunion. Wyalusing State Park, is located in the southwest corner of Wisconsin. It is located high atop a bluff overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers in the town of Wyalusing, just south of Prairie du Chien.

One of Wisconsin's oldest state parks, Wyalusing features family and indoor and outdoor group camps, hiking trails, a canoe trail, Native American burial mounds, bird watching, fishing, boating, bicycling, and picnicking near several scenic overlooks .

Among the four shelters that can be reserved, a favorite area for family reunions is the Hugh Harper Indoor Group Camp. The Hugh Harper Indoor Group Camp has four separate dorm buildings. Each one can accommodate 27 people (108 people total). Bunk beds with mattresses, indoor showers and flush toilets are included. The buildings are heated. The main lodge houses the kitchen, dining, and meeting facilities. The kitchen is equipped with a gas range, large refrigerator, large freezer, microwave, commercial dishwasher (detergent is provided), coffee percolator, and all cooking, serving and eating utensils. There is a storage room and bathroom with a shower. A large charcoal grill is available just a few steps outside the kitchen. The Hugh Harper Indoor Group camp is only one of three indoor group camps in Wisconsin State Park System.
