Smokey Bear Visits Wyalusing

Smokey Bear arrived in style at Wyalusing State Park. Smokey's birthday was celebrated by more than 90 visitors to Wyalusing State Park on Thursday, August 9, 2012. Smokey Bear led a parade of enthusiastic marchers around Wisconsin Ridge Campground. Aboard the Park's electric truck, driven by acting Park supervisor Greg Pittz, Smokey waved to the the campers and urged them to follow. The parade included parents and kids who had decorated their bikes in honor of Smokey's birthday.

The parade ended at the Peterson Shelter for birthday cake and cookies donated by Ma's Bakery of Bloomington, WI. Park Manager, Lisa Pitzer, read a story about Smokey Bear to an audience of attentive children and parents. Children enjoyed listening to the story while taking turns sitting on Smokey's lap.

Games were played and Smokey Bear memorabilia was distributed to all in attendance.

The birthday party was organized and sponsored by the Friends of Wyalusing State Park.
