Basket Weaving at Wyalusing

Adults and children joined Effigy Mounds National Monument Ranger, Mary Techau, in the Peterson Shelter  on a cool Saturday evening creating small reed baskets. Over 25 Wyalusing State Park campers and park visitors joined Techau as all created ornamental baskets.  Kathy Paske, Friends of Wyalusing member and Treasurer, assisted Mary.

The weavers were busy twisting small, thin reeds around a a set of reed spokes, eventually creating three color baskets of all shapes and sizes.

All of the weavers were happy with the final results of their weaving skills.

The program was made possible through the Friends of Wyalusing State Park. Many other programs have been planned for park visitors. Facebook users are encouraged to "like" the Friends of Wyalusing State Park.
