Brian Hefty- Property Manager of the Year*

Brian Hefty has received the Property Manager of the Year Award for 2009, presented by the annual meeting of the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks held at Horicon Marsh International Education Center, Horicon, WI.

Brain Hefty is the property manager for Wyalusing State Park and Nelson Dewey State Park. He has held that position for about five years. Upon his arrival, Brian initiated a plan for the development of the parks buildings, trails and personnel. Through his involvement of staff development and effective leadership, both parks took on a new look. Buildings were repaired and painted, trails were cleaned and groomed, and staff adopted a 'can do' outlook. Comments from park visitors reflected the positive changes which occurred in both parks.

In July, 200, Wyalusing State Park sustained a torrential rainstorm which severely damaged or destroyed a good portion of Wyalusing’s trail system. In spite of some very challenging budgets, Brain successfully initiated a strategic plan for the restoration of sustainable trails. Brian continues to be a successful office person, meeting the needs of the parks, as well as a hands on manager, often lending a hand doing the work of the parks.

Today, Wyalusing State Park and Nelson Dewey State Park sparkle like the true gems they are. Visitors have commented often on how good the parks look. Visitors have also commented on the responsiveness of the park staff. Many have said the transformation of the parks in the last five years has been miraculous. The staff's attitude reflects on Brian as an effective team leader. The physical improvements reflect on his ability as a manager.
